If you asked me what my favorite embellishments were, rub-ons would definitely be on my top 10 list. I love using rub-ons on everything and I'm sort of a stickler when it comes to the quality of a rub on. When Tinkering Ink asked if we would review their new transfers I was ecstatic! All of the Tinkering Ink products I have used to date have been of superb quality, so I was expecting great things from their new transfers.

I received 5 different packages of transfers for this review:

I only had to use 1 transfer to see that Tinkering Ink had created another quality product. I had no problem with them sticking to my projects while moving them around from place to place. It was easy to see when they had transferred to another surface, and they also didn't require a huge amount of pressure to transfer. Unlike a lot of rub-ons I have tried before, the transfer paper remained in place after transferring half the design, creating less chance of a shift to mess up the transfer.

For my first layout, I used almost the entire Floral Frippery as is. I only cut off 1 transfer from the end of the sheet, then I laid it down on my layout and rubbed the entire sheet on the cardstock next to my picture. I embellished the transfer decoration with rhinestones, journaling, and glitter. I used Tinkering Ink's Cary Grant paper as a house for my journaling. I added some stickers and bling to finish off the design.

I layered several of the transfers on my second layout, and embellished them with rhinestones. I noticed during this process, the transfers also worked great on photos.

My third project is a magnetic plaque. I decorated the lid of a metal tin that I got in the mail with internet disc in it. I painted the rim of the tin, added cardstock, Tinkering Ink Cary Grant paper, ribbon, and some foam letter stickers. I used the Fancy Frames Transfers around the word "Artist", and on the bottom corners, and then layered them with some White Woodland Transfers. I used a Botanical Border transfer over the top of my letter stickers and then added some of the same design that didn't make it onto the letters, around the letters. I also added some rhinestones colored with alcohol ink and stickles in between the Cary Grant paper lines.

I thought Tinkering Inks new Transfers were excellent as far as rub-ons are concerned. They performed exactly the way all rub-ons should and had such unique designs as well. These transfers would be the perfect ones for a beginning scrapbooker to try out first and experiment with. I am usually a hard person to please when it comes to rub-ons, but I really enjoyed working with these and would recommend them to all crafters!

Review by Randi

Tinkering Ink has created some really excellent rub-ons that they call "transfers." I received an assortment of them to try out including White Woodland, Corner Catchers, Fancy Frames, Botanical Borders, and Floral Frippery.

Most of these came in the color white with a couple of exceptions. Fancy Frames contained white, brown and black transfers, and the White Woodland consisted of white leaves, branches, butterflies and BLACK flies! These are VERY realistic flies, so much so that while I had them on my desk one day (and a real fly was bothering me) I actually swatted the sheet of transfers thinking it was the real fly! I felt kind of stupid, but it demonstrates pretty clearly how realistic these look!

My first project with the transfers was to dress up a folder that my youngest received at a homeschool co-op class. This folder was of a super slick paper, but I had no difficulty at all in adhering the transfers to its surface. Its now her favorite school folder. The layout below has a photo of this "altered" folder and the story of my daughter's comment that was a bit TOO honest. If you'd like to read the whole story, it's found here.

The transfers dressed up the cardstock in the following layout. They were a quick and easy way to add design to places that needed a little extra "something."

My last experiment with the transfers was to see how they worked on a layout that featured a busy background paper and cardstock accents. I really liked how the white borders and flowers complemented the design without overpowering it.

Tinkering Ink's Transfers are among the best rub-ons I've used. They were easy to apply, whether to cardstock or a glossy paper surface. The design rubbed off clean every time. They are economical too at $4.99 for the 5" x 8" sheet of transfers and $6.99 for the 10" x 8" sheet of transfers. The designs lend themselves to such a wide variety of themes that I'm confident you'll reach for them over and over. Buy a package or two soon!

Review by Catherine

When I heard that Tinkering Ink was making rub-ons, I have to say honestly that I was excited. After reviewing several lines in the past year or so, Tinkering Ink is one company that I have been very impressed with the quality and thought that seems to go into every one of their products. I was excited to see how the new Transfers would stack up.

For this review, I was sent five different types of Transfers.

I was impressed right away by the fresh, fun designs that were included on each of the Transfer sheets. Each sheet includes a variety of different images which coordinate with the overall theme of the Transfer sheet. I was impressed by the beautiful images; however, with any rub-on product the test comes in trying to actually get the rub-ons from the transfer sheet and onto the paper or surface. Many rub-ons may be beautiful, but will crack when rubbed or prove impossible to adhere to the project. After using the Tinkering Ink Transfers, I have to say this is definitely not the case. The rub-ons go on smoothly, and with very little effort. After cutting out the transfer I wanted, I was simply able to lay it on my project and rub softly. Every time, the rub-on turned out perfectly, even when I was rubbing over different layers of paper, and photographs.

My first project with the Tinkering Ink Transfers was a traditional layout. I really like the swirly rub-ons that are in the Black Fancy Frames set. I felt that they would create perfect contrast on a light blue page.

Stamps (Heidi Swapp)
Rub-on Transfers (Tinkering Ink)
Transparent Embellishments (Making Memories)
Metallic Powder (Perfect Pearls)
Chipbaord Circles (Scenic Route)
Adhesive (Adtech Permanent Bond Glue Runner)

For my next project, I wanted to make a door decoration for Halloween. I felt that the limb image from the Woodland collection would make a perfect accent for the project that I had in mind. I love the look of the white transfers against the black background.

Title:Halloween “Boo!” Sign
Materials Used:
Rub-on Transfers (Tinkering Ink)
Chipboard Shapes (Making Memories)
Patterned Paper (the Paper Studio)
Adhesive (Adtech Permanent Bond Glue Runner; UHU Glue Stick)

For my final project, I had pictures of my son’s first day of school that I wanted to scrap. I felt that the Harlequin border from the Botanical Borders set would be perfect for this layout. I love how this border points the way to the focal photo in this layout.

Title:4th Grade Back to School

Rub-on Transfers (Tinkering Ink)

After using these Tinkering Transfers on several projects, I have to say that I am very pleased with these rub-ons. I love the fact that they are easy to use, extremely crisp, and are mostly images that one won’t find in other company’s rub-on transfers. If you are looking for out of the ordinary rub-ons, that will work exactly as they are supposed to, then the Tinkering Ink Transfers are exactly what you are looking for!

Review by Rebecca

Transfers or rub-ons as they're also called can be found throughout the scrapbooking market. There are various designs, colors and quality of transfers produced by various manufacturers. My past experiences with rub-ons have been hit or miss. However, I've always been impressed with the quality of the products that Tinkering Ink makes so I was every excited to review the Tinkering Ink Transfers.

For the Tinkering Ink Transfers review I received:

The first four transfers I listed are on an 8" x 5" sheet. The White Woodland transfers are on a 9.5" x 8" sheet. Most of the designs are white with the exception of some black and brown pieces on the Fancy Frames sheet and two black fly images on the White Woodland sheet. Yes, there are fly images and they are VERY realistic looking!

My first project was a layout. I first created my layout with the title in the proper place. Then I applied the transfers to the chipboard letters I used for my title. I used my paper piercer to remove the parts of the transfer image that came off from the sheet but was not on the chipboard.

Title:Hang On
Materials Used:
Cardstock (Prism Prismatics)
Transfers (Tinkering Ink Transfers)
Patterned Paper (Tinkering Ink: Botanical Bliss)
Stamp (Poppy Ink Monthly Scrapbooking Kit)
Chipboard Letters (Heidi Swapp)
Felt Shapes (Fancy Pants)
Ink (Tim Holtz Distress Ink)
Pen (Pigma Micron)
Adhesive (Adhesive Tech, Permanent Bond Glue Runner)

For my next project I created an acrylic mini album. I first placed all my photos on the pages. Then I took my transfer sheets and embellished the pages. The transfers worked perfectly! I like that the image can be seen from both sides of the acrylic and it does not add weight or additional thickness to the album so my daughter is able to carry the album around without worrying about the album being bulky or embellishments falling off.

Title:Five Acrylic Album
Materials Used:
Cardstock (Prism Prismatics)
Transfers (Tinkering Ink Transfers)
Patterned Paper, Letters (Tinkering Ink: Botanical Bliss)
Acrylic Album (The Art Bar)
Ink (Tim Holtz Distress Ink)
Pen (Pigma Micron)
Adhesive (Adhesive Tech, Permanent Bond Glue Runner)

Finally, I couldn't call my review complete without creating a card. I decided to use some of the black transfers to embellish the card.

Title:Oh, Happy Day! Card
Materials Used:
Cardstock (Prism Prismatics)
Finery (Tinkering Ink Transfers)
Ink (Tim Holtz Distress Ink)
Pen (Pigma Micron)
Adhesive (Adhesive Tech, Permanent Bond Glue Runner)

Tinkering Ink definitely knows how to create quality products! The Transfers adhere when they are supposed to without having to use any special techniques. The Transfers also did not stick immediatley without even pressing like some other brands do. I like that the designs had enough blank space around them that I was able to trim out the design I wanted without trimming into others. I do wish that the designs were also available in black or other colors but I'm too busy creating with my white ones to worry about that!

Review by Penny

Tinkering Ink has continued to complement its impressive product lines with even more scrappy goodness by adding rub-on transfers! The primarily white rub-ons come on one sheet per package with romantic, floral touches. They are easy to transfer using just a small amount of pressure.

Four of their rub-on sets come on a 5" x 8" sheet at a retail price of $4.99 each. The first, Corner Catchers, has six different sets of white photo corners with a few extra scroll and flower images as well.

Botanical Borders has two white border pairs in different scroll patterns, one border strip in a floral pattern and one in a criss-cross pattern.

Fancy Frames mixes it up a bit with three identical border pairs in a scroll pattern, one set in white, one in brown and one in black. There are also three sets of photo corners in black, brown and white. There is one additional white border in a scroll pattern. I used one brown border (left of photo) and one white photo corner (on blue tag) in my first project.

Floral Frippery has the most varied grouping featuring several scrolls, flowing leaves, flowers, a heart, and a border. I used many of these on my next project. Gorgeous aren't they?

The White Woodland set is the largest with an 8" x 10" sheet. These all white Transfers include leaves, branches, flowers, butterflies, swirls and more and retails for $6.99.
