Magic Mesh has added some wonderful new colors to the rolled mesh line. The package of rolled mesh comes in a one yard roll. My first impression of the new bright colors was at the Midwest Scrapbook Associations Convention in Madison, Wisconsin. I bought several rolls right on the spot. Magic Mesh is a self adhesive, re-positionable, textured mesh design. Magic Mesh can be used for a background, a border, for die cuts or photo corners. I love the new bright colors for holiday cards and teen layouts. I also received some of the new fine weave design in soft neutral colors and in Lemon Chiffon and Sea Foam Green. I know I will be adding many creations to the Scrapfriends Magic Mesh Gallery. With Magic Mesh, a little Mesh goes a long way.

My first project is a Holiday Card. The bright Lime Green Magic Mesh adds pizazz and texture to the card.

Hot New Colors for Magic Mesh

I imagine I am not the only ScrapFriend who is a rookie to Magic Mesh, but I bet there aren’t many us. With the incredible contest they offered to highlight Dottie Ann, I’m sure lots of ladies tried it and formed their own opinions. At the time, I searched our local scrapbook stores and found no Dottie Ann anywhere. Come on, Denver is a big town. I know I didn’t hit all the shops but I’m not sure why this hasn’t caught on here.

Anyway…when Randi asked if I could add this review to my list, I was thrilled. I had never worked with Magic Mesh before and, no offense, really didn’t understand what all the fuss was about. Boy did I find out!!

Magic Mesh is so versatile. I love how the back is sticky enough to stay where you put it but light enough that adjusting the mesh is easy. Using even small pieces adds texture without bulk. It creates an almost dreamy effect when placed over similar colors. If I was ambivalent before, I am not now. This product will remain a staple among my supplies.

The hot new colors are wonderful. First, I gravitated towards the light greens and pinks to go with my little girl, of course. I began by weaving small strips into blocks of color over cardstock for monograms. I like how the colors blended, deepened or lightened depending on what color was on top.

Accesor-Eyes
Supplies:
Seafoam, Lemon Chiffon and Baby Pink Fine Weave Mesh (Magic Mesh)
Strawberry paper (Hot Off the Press)
Green and pink cardstocks (Paper Garden)
Letter punch-outs (Colorbök)
Brad (Making Memories)
Other: Red and yellow cardstocks

While I continued working on Hannah’s birthday book, (I want to finish her fifth birthday before her 6th in mid-July) I began this page featuring her presents. I chose paper, photos and a few embellishments, but something was missing. I decided to create borders to cap off the page. I trimmed two 12” pieces and stuck them onto my cutting mat, centered between the baseline and 3” marks. Using my craft knife, I cut a point every 2 inches between the 1” and 2” vertical marks. I transferred the border strips and embellished the page.

I also wondered if the mesh would punch well. I used a large flower punch and gave it a try. Well, it was not the best idea I had all day. It tended to gum up the punch when used alone. Then, I tried to stick it to cardstock and punch them together—too thick. Finally, I ended up punching the cardstock, adhering the mesh and trimming around the shape. Not ideal, but I do like the effect.

Birthday Presents

Dabs and Dots patterned paper (Paper Adventures)
Metal rimmed tags and tag letter stickers (Sticko)

Flower punch (Marvy/Uchida)
Vellum Title (Die Cuts with a View)
Pinks and Blues Brushables pigment brush tip pens and green pen (Zig)
Permanent glue runner (Adhesive Tech)
Other: Buttons and ribbons

Finally, I wanted to give the new metallics a try. The colors --gold, copper and bronze --—reminded me of fall, so I created a tag to highlight that theme.

Fall tag
Supplies:
Gold, Copper and Bronze Fine Weave mesh (Magic Mesh)
Cream speckled paper (Paper Garden)
Lumiere Metallic Russet acrylic paint (Jacquard)
Letter stickers (American Traditionals)
Large leaf punch (Marvy/Uchida)
Paper Shapers small leaf punch (EK Success)
Colorbox Burnt Siena chalk ink (Clearsnap)
Garnet PEARLustre embossing powder (Stampendous)
Copper Eyelash fiber (Lion Brand Yarn)
Cream eyelet and orange mini brads (JoAnn’s)
A Fine Line, fine tip liquid glue (Adhesive Tech)

Conclusion: Wow! I absolutely recommend the Magic Mesh new colors, actually any color. This is one of the most versatile products I’ve seen in a while, and it is so easy to incorporate into any project. Get some or get some new colors and start playing.

Magic Mesh-aka: Paper Crafting Staple

For this review I received ten 1 yard rolls of Magic Mesh in the new CHA colors. My package contained fine weave designs in Linen, Lemon Chiffon, Periwinkle, Silver, Copper, Baby Blue, Burnt Orange, Mustard, Taupe and Seafoam.

My favorite (today at least) has to be the silver. It has such a wonderful metallic color. Many times when things are described as "silver" you get gray. Not with this new Magic Mesh...it truly is silver. It looks like it has been painted with a silver metallic paint. It is perfect paired with all those wonderful metal embellishments that so popular. If silver isn't your metal color of choice, don't despair, Magic Mesh also makes it in Copper, Gold and Bronze. I combined the silver with grays and shades of blue on my "Innocence" layout for a subtle design. I cut it in squares to add accents and continue the geometric pattern used throughout the page. This enabled me to add a special flair to the page without bulk or extra embellishments.

Materials used:
Mesh: Magic Mesh fine weave silver
Pattern Paper: Center City Designs
Die cut title and tiles: Sarah Heidt Photocraft
"Pure" rub on: Making Memories
Ink: Ranger
Adhesive: Adhesive Tech permanent glue runner and a fine line

I also like the sea foam color which I able to use on my "Spring Has Sprung" card. It looks great when used with a purple color. Although, if green isn't your color, try the new periwinkle color instead.

Materials used:
Mesh: Magic Mesh fine weave seafoam
Pattern Paper: Carolees Creations (green) and Patchwork Paper Design (purple)
Rub on word: Making Memories
Chipboard Coaster: Lil Davis Designs
Butterfly charm: Card Connection
Ink: Ranger
Adhesive: Adhesive Tech permanent glue runner

Another thing I noticed is that the new colors are keeping up with the trends. These colors go perfectly with the newest papers and embellishments on the market. If you are one who always seeks the "latest and greatest" you can be sure Magic Mesh is able to keep up. One example can be seen in the use of the baby blue fine weave mesh paired with the new MOD designs from Autumn Leaves.

Materials used:
Mesh: Magic Mesh fine weave baby blue
Pattern Paper: Autumn Leaves
Ribbon slide: All My Memories
Metal Plaque: Making Memories
Ink: Ranger
Ric-Rac: Wrights
Adhesive: Adhesive Tech permanent glue runner

I haven't used a lot of Magic Mesh products but after receiving this package in addition to the generous prize package given to the finalists in the Dottie Ann contest I am positive it will be showing up on many more projects. I found Magic Mesh to be a versatile product that can dress up any project. Although not a "new" company they continue to put a new spin on old designs and have come up with a paper crafting staple.
