Slide mounts are a great embellishment to add to a layout due to their color availability and dimension. Loersch's Large Frames are a terrific addition to the slide mount offering! I had fun using Loersch's Large Frames on two recent projects. This style of frame is available in all 72 colors offered by Loersch.
The Large Frames that I received were in two color combinations: classic and metals. The classic colors are: cinnamon, wineberry, raspberry, tan, denim blue and hunter green. The metals colors are: metallic ivory, silver, pearl white, gold, platinum and copper. Each color combination was packaged in a clear cellophane bag with one of each color. The frames measure 2 3/4 inches square with an inside opening of 2 1/4 inches square. They are plastic with a light texture on one side and short ridges on the other side. Two slides can be snapped together by putting the ridged sides facing each other and pressing. This is great for sandwiching a piece of cardstock or acetate within the frame.
The Large Frames are easy to work with and can be applied to any project with adhesive that can be used with plastic. Adhesive Tech's 3-D Design Blocks work well and give a little dimension too. You can see that the Large Frame adds a nice final touch to the quote on the following layout.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I really wanted to highlight the cause in a beautiful and respectful way. The Large Frames made a beautiful accent to the patterned paper from Zsiage in the Z Becky Brown purse. I used Liquid Platinum embossing powder on the Awareness ribbon to highlight the contour of the design. The platinum colored frame showcased the saying beautifully. The pearl white frame was accented with various colored ribbons while highlighting the word "love". The versatility of the frame allowed for an elegant accent to a touching topic.

Loersch has already made a name for itself as a leader in manufacturing plastic slide mounts, those tiny, lightweight rectangular embellishments that lend themselves to multiple uses on scrapbook layouts. Now Loersch is pushing the envelope with frames and mounts in larger, more convenient sizes. The new frames and ‘superslides’ are available in the same wide assortment of coordinating colors as the original Loersch slide mounts. These new offerings provide fresh new options to scrapbookers on the hunt for fun, versatile embellishments.
Loersch’s new collection includes four different sizes of ‘large format’ frames. The ones I used are 2.75” square by outside measure, with an inner opening of 2.25” square. The frame is a consistent thickness on all four sides, unlike traditional slide mounts, which have two thicker sides and two thinner sides. This convenient size and shape is perfect for showcasing small photos, quotes or stickers. I embellished the frame in the layout below with stickers, but these frames lend themselves to embellishment with ribbon, fibers, rub-ons or even stamping (with which I would recommend an ink good for nonporous surfaces, such as StazOn).

The new slides and frames are available in all 72 Loersch colors, and are sold in coordinating color groupings to make designing with them a snap. Take a look at the Loersch website to see all of the colors, as well as images of all the different slide and frame formats available. While you’re there, you can find a lot of information and ideas for how to use various mounts, tiles and frames, as well as a design gallery with project examples and inspiration. The website includes articles such as a discussion of the archival qualities of Loersch products, and a mention of how ‘stacking’ mounts can allow you to house larger embellishments or memorabilia on a page – something I’m not sure would have occurred to me on my own. I always appreciate a manufacturer like Loersch, who dedicates web-space, time and energy to help crafters get the most out of their products.
I really enjoyed scrapbooking with Loersch’s new Large Format Frames. The color sets made coordinating page elements a breeze, the sizes proved to be convenient for a number of applications, and they are all sorts of fun to embellish…or not! I highly recommend Loersch Large Format Frames to my fellow paper crafters.

Loersch Large Format Frames are exactly what they sound like they would be. These slides are larger than regular slide mounts, with larger openings. I have wanted to use Large Format Frames on my pages, so I was excited to hear that we could be reviewing this product.
The Loersch Large Format Frames that I received to review were packaged in a cellophane baggie, and came in earthtone colors and neon colors. The Large Format Frames measure 2.75” X 2.75”, and have a 2.25” square opening in the center.
These Large Format Frames are perfect for highlighting sections of photos that a person would like to point out on their page, as well as for framing photographs. I decided to use the slide mounts first to frame a small photograph that I had. There was a great deal of clutter in the background of this picture, so using the slide mount as a frame was perfect for setting apart the photograph. I added a transparency shape and patterned paper to my frame, and it acts as a perfect embellishment for the picture.

Large Format Frame: Loersch
Rub-ons, Chipboard Circles: Heidi Swapp
Red Transparency: Magic Scraps

On the next layout, I used the white Large Format Frame to frame a section of my photograph, without cropping the photograph too much. I love the way the slide mount automatically draws the eye to the section of the photograph that I want the viewer to focus on.

These Large Format Frames are by far my favorite slide frames to work with. I love the way they look on my photographs, and I can see a number of different ways that one could use them in card-making and altered art. There are slight “tabs” on the bottom of the mounts, which cause the slide mounts to pop up off the page instead of lying flat, but I like the fact that the mounts then add a three-dimensional feel to my pages. I definitely recommend the Large Format Frames to scrapbookers and card-makers alike.

Loersch, a company that has for a long time been producing quality slide mounts for professional photographers, now offers a number of products with the scrapbooker in mind. A variety of sizes, shapes and colors are included in their comprehensive slide mount line.
I received two sets of Large Format Frames, including Spring Fling and Birthday Celebration . Each set came packaged with six frames all in different colors. Each mount measures 2.75" square with a 2.25" square opening. They are acid-free, light weight and so much fun. They may seem simple but they are so versatile. They can be stamped, distressed, painted, you name it. A pair of frames can be used back-to-back with a quick snap together. For example, if the back of the art piece will be seen, such as in an altered art piece, snapping the halves together may be warranted. Otherwise, just half is needed.
I created a page of Hannah’s first May Day festival at her school. I liked how the frames each held a little journaling. One tells what is in the cluster of photos and the other one gives the words to one of the traditional May Day songs. As you can see in the image, I stamped on two of the mounts. I read on their website that using permanent ink is essential. I did and I loved the result. Another small hint: The slides tend to be a bit slippery, so make sure they're on a solid surface and you use a steady hand to get a clean stamped image.

May Day
Supplies:
Large Format Frames in Spring Fling colors (Loersch)
Prismatics Frosted Orange and Blush Red Light (Prism)
Ballet Floral Print patterned paper (Sandylion)
Striped patterned paper (PrintWorks)
Epoxy word stickers (K & Company)
Ribbons (Offray)
Flower brads (The Paper Company)
Purple ultra-fine pen (Sharpie)
Permanent Glue Runner and BorderLine Glue Stick (Adhesive Tech)
Conclusions: These larger mounts have claimed their place in my embellishment box. There are myriad colors and each mount can highlight something more substantial than a traditional mount as the center opening accommodates images up to 2” squared. The thin and light weight properties make them perfect for cards, scrapbooking and altered art. I can’t wait to get more colors. Absolutely recommended.

This month I was invited to review the Large Format Frames from Loersch. These frames measure 2.75 x 2.75 inches with an inner dimension of 2.25 x 2.25 inches and are slightly thicker than the circle frames which are .07 mm. This style of frame, just debuted at the 2005 Summer CHA Show, is available in 72 colors. I received 1 each of both the pastel colors (pastel yellow, pastel violet, pastel pink, pastel peach, pastel green and pastel blue) and the primary colors (orange, green, red, blue, yellow and purple).
I really enjoyed the fact that these frames were larger than the typical frame. This size definitely added to the variety uses. They can be used to frame numerous elements, from photos to other smaller frames. They can also be embellished to add an even more unique look. For the “My Boy” layout I embellished the frames with Magic Mesh. I also distressed the design by sanding and inking. I then placed it around a circle frame to which I also distressed and added rub-on words.

Materials used:
Loersch Frames: Primary Blue Large Format, Pastel Green Circle Frame
Cardstock: Prism Exclusives and Prismatics (Celeste, Frosted Kiwi)
Pattern Paper: Basic Grey (Skate Shoppe)
Mesh: Magic Mesh Fine Weave (Kiwi, Turquoise)
Rub on words and letters: Memories Complete
Ink: Bazzinks Brown Monotones
Adhesive: Adhesive Tech Permanent Glue Runner
I also used the product as is to add a mini frame to my “Daddy” altered photo frame. Notice how these frames can be easily accented by tying a simple piece of ribbon to the edge.

Materials used:
Cardstock: Prism Prismatics (Black, Perfect Baby Blue)
Pattern Paper and Large Rub-on Monogram: Arctic Frog
Stamps: Purple Onion Designs
Ribbon: American Crafts
Ink: Ranger (Black Soot Distress Ink)
Corner rounder: EK Success
Adhesive: Adhesive Tech Permanent Glue Runner
These frames are very versatile and with the larger format make them ideal for larger accents. They were fun to use and I would highly recommend them.
