Krylon's Workable Fixatif is labeled this way, "Prevents smudging of chalk, crayon, charcoal, pastels, pencil and more". Very simple to use, you just spray a light coat over your finished layout. I tested it on photos and paper on which I had used Craf-T's Decorator and Glimmer Chalks.

This product did a great job of sealing my work so that the chalk did not rub off. It would also be perfect for use with things such as Jacquard's Pearl Ex or Ranger's Perfectly Pearls. If you use a medium that has a tendency to not bind to the paper, this spray is a must. As with all sprays I recommend using this outdoors. Keep out of the reach of children.

Workable Fixatif by Krylon is one crafting spray that I've had in my stash for years! I was introduced to the product after taking a color blending class at a local stamp store. The teacher emphasized how important it was to always have a can of this "magic spray" around when working with colored or watercolor pencils and chalks. I took her advice and bought a can on the spot!
Krylon's Workable Fixatif is available in at least 2 sizes of spray cans, 3 ounces and 11 ounces. It is available in many chain craft, art and paint stores as well as hardware stores. The product is actually a finishing spray, meaning that spraying Workable Fixatif on your project will keep it looking as it does that moment in time. The secret part of the Fixatif is that it is "workable" - you can go back and touch up your project EVEN AFTER using this spray! My teacher was right when she said "magic spray"! I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to add something to a project after I thought it was truly done.
The spray leaves a slightly textured matte finish that dries within minutes. The application of thin coats is good to prevent drips or paper saturation. You can even erase your chalk or pencil creations through the Workable Fixatif! And of course, it is acid-free and archival safe.
I truly enjoy working with many different mediums when I scrapbook: chalks, pastels, colored pencils, watercolor pencils and even sometimes sweetened condensed milk! Spraying Workable Fixatif on my creations is what keeps them safe and the pages around them. There is no smudging, running or transfer that occurs after using the Fixatif. Intensifying color is often hard to do with the mediums that I've mentioned unless a large amount of the product is used. This often degrades the detail of the original image that was being colored and looks just plain bad! By using Workable Fixatif, you are able to easily add color and blend without all the hassle of unwanted build-up. Here is a simple example using chalk. The image is stamped in Versamark ink and colored with chalk. Both images were sprayed with Fixatif for preservation. The right image is colored with a second layer of chalk then sprayed again with Fixatif for sealing. Notice the intensification!

If you enjoy using any type of art medium in your scrapbooks or card making, Krylon's Workable Fixatif is a must. Just get the big can - you're going to need it!

We received one 3 oz. aerosol can of Workable Fixatif from Krylon. It is made to use with chalks, watercolors, charcoals, pastels and pearl-ex to prevent smudging. You can use it over the top to seal the chalks or watercolors in or you can use it first and then chalk or watercolor over the top. Applying the Fixatif first makes the colors much more vibrant and bold.
It can be used on anything including cardstock, vellum, transparencies, or other papers. It is acid-free so it is safe to use in your scrapbooks. It also dries quite fast to a clear, durable finish. The bottle says that it will take approximately 30 minutes and it could take up to an hour for drying. I never had to wait that long for the Fixatif to dry. My projects were dry and ready to go within five minutes. This spray is very easy to use. You just apply like you are spraying regular spray paint. The Fixatif works better and dries faster when applied in thin coats. The Workable Fixatif retails for anywhere from $3.79 to $5.69.
The first project I used the Workable Fixatif on was a card. I used clear ultra thick embossing powder and then put on several different colors of Pearl-Ex powders over the top. I then sealed the card with the Workable Fixatif. It is absolutely beautiful and the Pearl-Ex did not lose any of its shimmer or shine.

On the second project, I used chalks on vellum and the Fixative to seal it all in. It worked absolutely perfect. I was afraid that using the Workable Fixatif on vellum would show bubbles or streaks. I had no reason to be afraid. The Workable Fixatif worked wonderfully.

In conclusion, this Workable Fixatif spray is going to be one of those supplies that I need to have in my stash at all times. I use chalks, colored pencils, and Pearl-Ex powders so often that this spray has now become a necessity. I don’t know what I did without it for so long. If you love using chalks, charcoals, and Pearl-Ex Pigment Powders, this spray is a must have. I highly recommend this product!

With so many art products becoming popular in scrapbooking – chalks, pigment powders and rub-ons are some that come to mind – scrapbookers are finding they need something to stop art from smudging against page protectors and other elements. Krylon’s Workable Fixatif is an acid-free spray that “sets” these mediums so that a little contact won’t rub them right off the page.
I’ve used Krylon’s Workable Fixatif spray mainly with chalked images. The spray dries very quickly when applied as directed. I prefer to spray outside, but it can be done in any well ventilated area. It takes several light coats to set chalk to the point that it will not rub off when touched with a finger, and I add a few more coats from that point on to get a better hold. I consider this spray to be essential to preserve chalked images.
I also found that the Workable Fixatif can be used as a base coat to provide a ‘friendlier’ surface to work with. I read an article on the Craf-T website about how to colorize black and white photographs using chalks. The directions assumed that the photo had been printed on paper types that would hold the chalk, as I found when I tried to tint a newly printed photo with a glossy finish. The chalks just were not sticking to the ultra-smooth photo. My eye caught the Workable Fixatif on my worktable, and I wondered if that might change the photo surface to give the chalks a better hold. Sure enough, after adding some of the Workable Fixatif to the photograph, I was able to add chalk where I liked it. I then used the spray again to hold the chalks in place.
Krylon’s Workable Fixatif is an effective solution for scrapbookers and stampers using chalks and similar mediums on items that will be handled or touch other items or pages. It doesn’t take long to dry, and prevents damage to precious hand-colored papers and images. Recommended.

Krylon Workable Fixative
I love working with chalks, pencils, crayons in my projects but I don’t like that tell-tale sign of the element which is left on the side of my hand along my pinkie towards my wrist. Krylon has a product that will help with that, Workable Fixative. It is just as it sounds: Workable, spray a light coat over chalk but still blend colors as desired. Fixative, fixes the image to prevent unwanted smudging during work and to hold down “dust” when laying on an adjacent page when finished.
Conclusion: Recommended if you like working with “smudge-able” products or if you live in a humid climate.
