Sometimes I want to include things on my layouts, such as newspaper clippings, ticket stubs or other memorablilia, but I'm just unsure as to its acid-free status. Krylon has a solution for this. Their "Make It Acid-Free!" spray neutralizes acids that can deteriorate paper and cause brittleness. It also is labeled to extend the life of scrapbook materials. On this layout, I used Make It Acid-Free! spray on the target which I printed from a website.

Krylon stays on the cutting edge with products, especially when it comes to paper. Another addition to the Paper Finishes line is the Make It Acid-Free! spray. Available in a 3-oz can and larger, this spray is the only one that you cannot see an immediate result. The properties of this spray are to prolong the life of memorabilia and paper so that you can keep it in a scrapbook without damaging other items in close proximity. The chemicals are neutralized so that the paper doesn't become brittle or yellowed with age - terrific for all those newspaper articles from years past!
The product's instructions are clear and easy to follow. The application is to completely cover the surface with the spray starting off the paper and continuing off the other side. It is also important to allow a minute for drying time before turning the page over to spray the other side. This allows the entire piece to be covered by the spray for complete neutralization.
I sprayed a couple newspaper articles with the Make It Acid-Free! product to stop any aging of the paper. I know that it didn't hurt the paper in any visible way. I am very interested to see what it looks like a year from now!
I believe that Krylon offers only quality products and the promise of prolonging precious memorabilia by using the Acid-Free spray is an important one. I will continue to use the spray on those important pieces of newsprint and cards while monitoring the progress of aging over the years. I recommend having the spray in your stash for those important memoirs!

Krylon has a Paper Finish that is called “Make It Acid-Free.” This spray can be used on newspaper or anything that might not be considered acid free. It neutralizes the acid and extends the life of the paper. This spray helps the paper to not turn yellow and brittle with age. It can be used on anything that is questionable on whether it is acid free or not. It is a clear spray so there is no discoloration when using it. This spray is extremely flammable so be sure to follow the instructions on the can. This spray comes in two sizes. The 3 oz can retails for approximately $5.00. The 6 oz. can retails for approximately $11.00. The Acid-free spray dries very fast so there is no waiting when using it.
I recommend this product highly. It is very economical and is great for those newspaper clippings and important documents that you want to save. It has become quite the staple in my scrapbooking area. I have used over half the can on newspaper clippings about different things involving my family! You will enjoy this product and it won’t put a huge dent in your pocketbook!

Companies providing papers and embellishments for scrapbooking purposes make sure to label their products “acid-free.” Acids are commonly used in paper manufacturing, and even the finished paper retains traces of that acid. Unfortunately, those acid remains continue to eat away at the paper over the years, causing deterioration and brittleness. It’s easy to pick up acid-free paper, cardstock and stickers in the store to use on your pages, but what happens when you really want or need to use something that isn’t – or may or may not be - acid free? Krylon has a solution for you. Paper Finishes Make it Acid-Free! Spray helps neutralize the acid in papers with unsafe or unknown acid content by buffering the paper and increasing its Ph level. In doing so, Make it Acid-Free! prolongs the life of the paper, stops papers from becoming brittle, and prevents damage to other items on the page.
Popular scrapbooking memory items such as newspaper articles, ticket stubs, theatre programs and postcards are likely to be printed on acidic papers. And as if their own deterioration wasn’t bad enough, acid has been shown to ‘migrate’ on a scrapbook page and affect other items and photographs on a layout. This means that the acid from one unsafe item can leach over towards your other papers, embellishments and photos and affect them too. When my daughter was born, we received a lovely welcome note for her from the White House.

I’d love to save this for Kaycie on a page in her baby album, but I don’t have any idea what the acid content of the paper might be. To play it safe, I’ve sprayed it on both sides with Krylon’s Paper Finishes “Make It Acid-Free!” I’ve also used the spray on postcards my husband’s grandfather mailed his family while he was serving in the South Pacific during World War II, on my grandparents’ wedding program from 1939, and other heritage items, many of which have already discolored or cracked from brittleness. Although they’ve already begun to deteriorate, I feel much better knowing that from this point on, they will be better protected.
As a scrapbooker concerned with keeping family memories that include much more than ‘just’ photographs and pristine made-for-scrapbooks items, I want to take every precaution to protect my important memorabilia and make it last as long as possible. Krylon Paper Finishes Make It Acid-Free! spray is easy to use, provides even coverage, and dries quickly. I use it on anything I use that may be acidic, and recommend its use to others.

With all the memorabilia currently finding its way into our scrapbooks such as newspaper clippings, school papers, maps, brochures, foreign currency, tickets and much more, Krylon created a way to protect our pages and the memorabilia. Make it Acid Free! spray may be used on anything that you are unaware of its acidic properties.
This spray will help paper stay intact and supple while protecting valuable photos and embellishments surrounding the memorabilia. You put your heart and soul into your albums and altered items so it is worth knowing that all of your page elements will stand the test of time. Your children’s children and beyond will have the chance to see your daughter’s certificate for her first haircut or your tickets to that “old stadium” that was torn down.
To give you a peak at what this spray will do. I sprayed a card of Hannah’s that she created using markers on construction paper. I chose this because I wanted to see how it would react with the markers on such a soft paper. Would it cause the markers to run? I sprayed the bottom half of the card with Make It Acid-Free! and as you can see there is no visual difference. I was pleased with the results.

Conclusion: You gotta have this. Consider it a small investment in the lifetime of your scrapbooks. The spray is fine and does not change your image. Recommended.
