Crystal clear beauty and elegance in today's colors!
Hambly Screen Prints are like no other product available on the market today. Offering patterned paper and overlays in 12" x 12" sizes, the pages just ooze quality and vibrance! If there ever was a collection to hold near and dear, Hambly Screen Prints has it all. You love to look at it, touch it, put it down next to your pictures and then wonder if you should really use it. YES! is the resounding answer, dare to make your layout special by using these beautifully designed products.
I received a nice selection of patterned paper and overlays to use for this review, all from the newest releases. The paper is solid color with printing on one side, actually hand silk-screened on one side. Some of the patterns have a linen-style texture to them and others have a glistening metallic sheen. The paper's weight is at the medium level allowing for easy tearing while still holding a firm edge. The patterns are slightly raised due to the screening process which makes the paper even more fun to work with!
The overlays or transparencies are spectacular. They are 12" x 12" and the heaviest ones that I know to be available on the market today. Hand silk-screened like the patterned papers, the overlays can be used complete as a page or trimmed to the design screened onto that page. The flexibility is enormous as you start to work with this product. The themes of the patterns may first seem "way out there" as you look at the "5 Dandelions" and think of some possible way to use it. I'll tell you what, inspiration comes quickly as you start to move around the overlay on your photos! Could they used as trees perhaps? Snowballs? the Sun? As part of a title? The answer is yes, as long as you have the imagination, Hambly will provide the product to feed it!
The newest products are available in hip, hot colors like: lime green, bright orange, gold, deep turquoise, hot pink and even bright yellow. Some of the designs include scroll borders, elegant frames, journaling boxes, chandeliers, flowers and more. I couldn't resist layering some of the large dandelion designs for the following layout. Prism has the perfect color matched cardstock in their Exclusives line for the Hambly products, what an unintentional bonus! I trimmed the dandelion designs from the 12" x 12" sheet to really make them stand out against the solid cardstock. An added benefit from the trimming is that I now have overlay scraps to use on a future project. A couple borders trimmed from the "On-Edge" overlay worked well along the bottom of the pages to anchor the design. The "Urban Chic Frames" fit perfectly over the 4" x 6" photos and added a great casual sophistication that California exudes.

Ink (Tsukineko: VersaMagic Cloud White and Brilliance Graphite Black)

Creating cards using the overlays and patterned papers adds a definite elegance to something that can be very ordinary. The "Mini Graph" brown metallic with hot pink grid-lined paper served as a nice background for the hot pink deco frame. A simple sentiment was stamped inside the frame with a little bling added for good measure!

Hambly has a terrific, hip product full of fun and inspiration. Whether using the overlays or patterned paper, you're bound to be creative on any project. It may take a little getting used to using the bold patterns and colors, but I have no doubt you'll find the right layout very soon. You'll be hooked after that! I know I am.

Hambly Screen Prints has taken the scrapbooking world by storm in the past couple of years! This company is absolutely one of my favorites, and I know that I am not alone in my thoughts. The first products that Hambly produced for the scrapbooking market were extremely inventive and innovative and people seemed to be drawn to them very quickly. The newest designs from Hambly are just as innovative and interesting.
I was very excited to hear that we would be reviewing some of the newer products from Hambly Screen Prints. I love using Hambly products, and have always found them to be of very high quality. When I opened my review package, my imagination and creativity were immediately sparked. All Hambly Screen Prints papers and overlays are hand-silkscreened. The colors on these screenprinted papers and overlays are so beautiful. Most have shimmery metallic accents in the ink, which make any layout stunning. The overlays are by far the thickest transparencies I have ever had the pleasure to use, so they can hold their own for transparent pages. One thing that is always so interesting to me, which doesn't add or detract from the beauty of the products, is the smell of the papers and overlays. Because of the smell of the ink that is used for screen-printing, a vanilla scent is added. So every time you open up a package of Hambly papers, whether brand new or if it's been sitting in a bag for a while, you get a wonderful whiff of vanilla. Beyond the smell, the products range from elegant to funky, but all are beautiful. I received three different papers, and twelve overlays to work with. My favorites, by far are the overlays.
I decided to use my favorite paper from the products that I was sent for my first project,. The Mini Graph papers from Hambly have small grungy grid-lines printed them. The only thing that I have seen that comes close to this design in the past is digital products. The addition of a frame and few simple embellishments and the page is complete.

Next, I wanted to use a couple of the overlays layered as a background. I have seen these dandelion overlays used in so many different ways, and not just on flower themed layouts. I did, however, have a cute story to share about my son, involving dandelions. So I loved being able to include the huge graphic and bold dandelion overlays on my page.

I don't know where Allison, who designs most of the Hambly Screen Prints papers and overlays, gets her ideas. Each new release seems to be more cutting edge and innovative. With each new line of papers and transparencies, I am always thoroughly impressed. If you haven't checked out Hambly Screen Prints yet, I urge you to hurry to your nearest supplier and buy some up! They are so wonderful to work with, and so easy to use, I promise you won't be disappointed. Be sure to check out the Hambly gallery and blog for inspiration if you do get stuck. There are always wonderful designs and beautiful projects to spark any missing creativity.

For 35 years silk screenings, posters and greeting cards have been designed and produced by Hambly Studios. Along the way they decided to enter the scrapbooking market and I am so thankful that they did. By hand silkscreening with metallic inks, Hambly Studios created overlays and papers that the scrapbooking industry had not seen yet. The designs that Hambly Studios brings to the scrapbooking are new and innovative. I had never seen weeds, dandelions or giant chandeliers before Hambly's products hit the market. So I was excited to be able to use these wonderful designs in my albums.
The Hambly Screen Prints products I received for my review were:
- Journaling Bits
- Art Deco Frames
- Urban Chic Frames
- Grand Chandelier
- Twigs and Weeds
- 5 Dandelions
- Mini Graph
- Vintage Patchwork
- Out On A Limb
All of the overlays and papers by Hambly Screen Prints are 12" x 12" in size. Most of the designs are available in many different colors. Some of the designs are the full 12" x 12" size like the Grand Chandelier in metallic gold that I received. Some of the designs are made to be cut out and used on different pages like the journaling and frame overlays. There are designs like the Dandelions that only have printing on a portion of the page. Finally, there are some overlays, like the Twigs & Weeds, that is printed on the full page but could definitely be cut out and used on different projects.
The Journaling Bits Overlays I received were in pink and black. The other colors available in this design are white, orange and lime. The Journaling Bits contains 15 different journaling boxes and circles with swirls and other decorative touches. The Art Deco Frames overlay has one large frame and three smaller ones. The Urban Chic Frames has nine different frames ranging in size from 4" x 6" to 1.5" x 1.5" square.
For my J Girls layout I cut out one of the designs from a sheet of Vintage Patchwork paper. The overlay that I used was from the green Urban Chic Frames overlay. I used a frame that was smaller than the photo so that I could draw the focus to a portion of the photo.

Products used:
Cardstock (Prism Prismatics, Wizard Dark)
Patterned Paper (Hambly Screen Prints, Vintage Patchwork)
Overlay (Hambly Screen Prints, Urban Chic Frames)
Chipboard Alphabet (Scenic Route Paper, Heidi Swapp)
Sticker (Around The Block, Avery Products)
Flower (Heidi Swapp)
Pen (Zig Writer)
Adhesive (Adhesive Tech, Permanent Glue Runner)
The 5 Dandelions overlays I received were orange, blue and pink but yellow, lime and purple are also available. The design only takes up the left half of the 12" x 12" sheet with the right side being fully transparent with no design. The Twigs & Weeds overlay does take up the full sheet but it could easily be trimmed for different projects.
For my Read layout I cut out three of the 5 Dandelions from the overlay and adhered them upside down so that they fit with my photo. That is the great thing about the overlays; they can be used on either side that works for your layout. My layout is only 8" x 8", but shows how even though the overlay was on a 12" x 12" sheet it can be used for any size. I also used the Mini Graph patterned paper which made it easy to place my photos and journaling strips because I just had to use the grid!

Hambly Screen Prints is not limited to just overlays. The company also designs patterned papers. The papers all have a slight "shine" or "sparkle" to them that makes these papers stand out from the rest. The cute little owl and birds from the "Out On A Limb" sheet made that design my favorite of the ones I received.
For my Life Is A Hoot card I cut out the owl portion of the Out On A Limb paper and a journaling circle from the Journaling Bits overlay. I just had to add some stickers for the journaling and the card was completed.

Even though the Hambly Screen Prints products are all produced in 12" x 12" sheet size the projects you can create do not have to be limited to that size. All of the designs can be cut up and used on different size projects, even the Grand Chandelier. Because of how easy it is to use the products on more than one project I definitely think they are worth the $2.79 price tag. I would recommend purchasing Hambly Screen Prints products because they are unique, fun to create with and add let you layer and embellish any type of creation.

Hambly Screen Prints has just released an extensive new collection of their gorgeous silk-screened papers and transparent overlays. The designs and colors are bright and bold and very fun!
For this review I received four pieces of patterned paper: "Black Vintage Plaid" on silver, "Metallic Silver Out on a Limb" on onyx, "Brown Vintage Patchwork" on lagoon blue and teal blue "Mini Graph" on bronze. They are lustrous and have a nice heavy weight to them. The papers retail for $1.50 each.
I received two transparent overlays that complement their matching patterned paper perfectly: "Red Vintage Plaid" and "Brown Out on a Limb."
For my first project I used the "Metallic Silver Out on a Limb" paper topped with the brown "Out on a Limb" overlay. This gave a wonderful dimensional look to the layout.

I also received two of the "5 Dandelions" overlays, one in bright orange and the other hot pink, the "2 Dandelions" overlays in a teal blue and golden yellow. Continuing the nature theme was "Twigs & Weeds" in one of my current favorite colors--lime green. You can see how I used this overlay in my second project:

Marker (Signo Uni-Ball, Sanford Sharpie)

Hambly's papers and overlays feel very decadent. They take any page and give it that "WOW!" factor. This is evident with their "Metallic Gold Grand Chandelier" and "Urban Chic Frames" overlays. An extra touch of romantic gold, who can resist?
I have several ideas for my other transparent overlays but one that I just had to use immediately were their "Journaling Bits," mine in both hot pink and white. With 15 different journaling bits in circular, square and rectangular shapes, you won't have a problem finding one that works on your project. These are so cute and handy that they were my favorite overlays to work with. You can see them in "She's Got Moxy" above and in my layout below.

The transparent overlays retail for around $2.50 each. Coordinating rub-ons and many other varieties of paper and overlays are also available.
I did a quick browse of Hambly's online gallery to prepare for this review. I was totally inspired by the creative uses for these overlays. Take a look yourself and you will see how stunning your next project could be with a little help from Hambly.

For months I have been hearing about a company that makes the most wonderful transparencies. I’ve even drooled over the layouts, cards and projects that I have seen. But it wasn’t until this review that I was able to get my hands on some of the products by Hambly Studios. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about transparencies that retail for $2.79 a piece. Boy was I wrong.
How was I wrong? First these are not ordinary transparencies. They are two the three times as thick as an over head from the office store. And the image is “thickly” applied. I learned that Hambly Studios hand prints, what they call Overlays, using the same technique as t shirt makers use to screen print shirts. This method allows for the “ink” to sit on top of the overlay. The quality produced using this method is amazing!! Hambly Studios makes both the overlays and patterned paper using the screen printing technique.
When my box arrived, I was surprised by the quality of the overlays. They were so much more than what I was expecting. They are stunning designs that work well with many different page themes. I also received some of the screen printed papers. The papers themselves are thinner than I expect. If I was going to use a sheet as a background I would need to add cardstock to the back for support. However, these papers are what I would call specialty papers. They have texture and the metallic have a luster to them that is unbeatable. The papers retail for $1.69 per sheet. Again both the papers and the Overlays are created by hand. These are not mass produced on a four color printing press. There is actually a person adding ink to the top of a screen and pressing the ink through to create either the paper or overlay.
Hambly Studios sent me a great variety to work with. Most of the overlays were images that could be used with just about any theme. The only one that made me scratch my head was the full sized chandelier. At first I just didn’t see what pages I would create using it, but the more I thought about it the more I see me scrapping formal type pictures with this overlay. And I am anxiously waiting for the right photos to use with it!
My first project started from one of the papers called Out on a Limb. I cut the birds on a limb out of the paper. Since my maiden name is Bird I thought that this would be perfect for pictures from our family reunion. I added one of the overlay frames around the photo. Then I added the dandelions to the left of the page.

Patterned Paper: Background paper (Around the Block), Birds on branch (Hambly
Studios)
Transparency: Overlays (Hambly Studios)
Ribbon: (Tie on On Ribbon Club)
Letter Stickers: Brown (KI Memories), white (Doodlebug)
Adhesive (Adhesive Tech, Permanent Bond Glue Runner)
My second project is based on more pictures from one of our Disney trips. We took a tour behind the scenes at the Land. I have been waiting to scrap these pictures and the Weeds and Twigs overlay was perfect for them! I started by cutting up the overlay. This is actually one of my favorite things to do with overlays. You don’t have to use them as come; they look great cut up too! I placed the pieces of the overlay so that they would create a visual triangle on my page. I love how they look over my pictures.

Title: Behind the Seeds tour
Products used:
Cardstock (Prism Prismatics)
Patterned Paper: Background (Flair Designs), Stripe (Crate Paper)
Transparency: Overlay (Hambly Studios)
Adhesive (Adhesive Tech, Permanent Bond Glue Runner)
I was very impressed with both the quality of the overlays and the ease at which they can be used. In the little bit of time that I have had to work with them, my mind has been racing with projects and ideas. I love that the designs can be cut apart and used as pieces on a layout or used to layout over a whole project. I love the patterns on the papers, as well as the paper itself. This is something that you have to see for yourself.
I try not to be influenced by all the talk about a product. But this time the talk was dead on! I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to work with Hambly Studios product, and I would jump at the opportunity to work with them again. Don’t let the price stop you from trying them out. Your pages and projects are worth something as special as Hambly Studios!
