Ribbon, twill and fibers are some of my favorite embellishments in scrapbooking. I received a beautiful collection of these from Fibers By The Yard. I love the quality and variety they offer.

In my layout "The Joy of Books" I used a moss green twill on the ends of my tags and also tied onto a paper clip. The twill is a good quality and the color is soft and coordinates with so many of the popular patterned papers used in scrapbooking.

Supplies:

Cardstock - Bazzill Basics
Patterned Papers - KI Memories
Stamps - Leave Memories "Spring Garden Font"
Twill - Fibers by the Yard
Ink: Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink (green)
Other - Paper Clip
Adhesive - Adhesive Tech

In "Turning Ten" I used a 7/8" wide light blue grosgrain ribbon on the bottom of my layout. I attached each end to each end of a metal buckle and secured with brads. I used stamps to imprint “never forget those days” onto the ribbon to customize the ribbon.

The red grosgrain ribbon from FBTY made a nice accent for my western themed layout. I used it below the vellum quote, and attached it to my hidden journaling tag in "Pony Girl."

I love the variety that Fibers by the Yard offers. You don’t have to shop around for the fibers, ribbon and twill because you can get it all on one shipment. I have shopped with them previously and their shipping is fast and affordable. This was my first time using their grosgrain ribbons and I was happy with the quality and color selection. I’m always a happy scrapper using products from Fibers by the Yard.

Who doesn't enjoy having a nice variety of fibers, ribbons and twill? It is an inexpensive and colorful option of adding texture and highlights to your layouts, cards, and whatever type of papercraft you have at hand. To get a good variety however, you may not wish to buy spool after spool after spool. Fibers By The Yard solved that problem for us! Here you can find a large variety of high quality textiles for your crafting needs.

Yellow twill was used on this card to form a border under the stamped microscope slide.

Stamping on twill was something totally new to me, and I stamped on various layouts, just because I could! The twill on this one acts both as a border and as the hanging place for some of the embellishments.

Fibers By The Yard Ribbon and Twill: Tight Weaves Handle Abuse

Upon first sight of Fibers By The Yard ribbons and twills, I was impressed with the high quality of the fabric and weave. As a former seamstress, I’m afraid that I am most likely doomed, forever and automatically, to inspect every textile for quality of workmanship (even when said textile is meant to be glued to a piece of paper!)

I received a variety of colors and widths of grosgrain, organza and twill types of ribbon. I enjoyed crafting with each kind, and yes, I found odd satisfaction in inspecting the fabric quality of each ribbon!

I have to say that FBTY’s Grosgrain Ribbon is the highest quality grosgrain I have ever seen. It has a tight weave which gives it a higher-than-usual look of quality. I especially like the fact that you cannot pull the threads of the woven ribbing away from each other, as is common with cheaper grosgrains. Why should YOU care, you ask? Well, I will tell you. The tight weave of this ribbon makes it a better-than-most candidate for altering -- stamping, inking, gluing, and, in general, abusing in ways that were not intended for ribbons! FBTY Grosgrain will hold stamped images without distortion from shifting threads in the weaving. FBTY Grosgrain can be adhered by running a glue runner down the length of the ribbon – and it retains its nice, straight and compact shape, again without distortion. Best of all, FBTY Grosgrain handles altering in a higher-than-average manner with excellent results.

For example, please see my "Family Christmas" page featuring Fibers By The Yard 1" Red Grosgrain Ribbon as an embellishment in the top left-hand corner. The ribbon was altered to match the theme of the page by zipping the ribbon over the surface of a black dye ink pad. When the black ink was dry, I stamped a VersaMark pad onto the ribbon’s distressed side. Clear UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) and heat were then applied. I am so impressed at this ribbon’s performance through all of that!

On my next page, I turned to the FBTY Grosgrain once again. And again, I altered this ribbon to produce the shade I wanted for my page. Originally, this ribbon was a bright, orange-yellow. I ran the ribbon over a copper colored ink pad to add more orange to the ribbon. To apply the ink evenly, I placed the ribbon onto the ink pad. Next, I took the edge of a metal ruler and pushed it through the ribbon into the inkpad. Maintaining pressure on the ruler, I then pulled the length of ribbon through – with the ribbon coming out from between the ink pad and the ruler.

FBTY Organza Ribbon is, again, very high quality and has a lovely weave. It holds stamping very well and maintains its shape -- a quality that is essential when words are stamped onto a page. This organza has an incredible iridescent sheen that puts other organzas to shame!

Also featured on this page is a large collection of Fibers By The Yard fibers -- these fibers are "wow!"

Fibers By The Yard Twill was the third and last ribbon I worked with. This twill is pretty thick in comparison to other twills. Although it has a delightful, soft cottony feel that I appreciated, this isn’t really needed for scrapbooking. The slight fuzziness of the ribbon’s fabric made it quite difficult to stamp clearly. The images were distorted by the qualities that make this twill so soft. FBTY twill also is not woven exactly straight down its length. On a couple of the twills I noticed that one edge was pulled tighter than the other edge. This makes it difficult to apply stamps, and it also causes some headaches in trying to attach the ribbon down so it looks straight on the page!

My last page features all three ribbon types, unstamped and unaltered. I enjoyed combining grosgrain, organza and twill in different shades of blue and the accent yellow, because really when you get to working with FBTY ribbons, you feel a need to use more, more, and more! They look better in combination with other ribbons!

In Summary: Overall, I was very impressed with the quality and workmanship of Fibers By The Yard ribbons. The twill is a bit too soft and thick for the purposes of papercrafts, so I can’t rate this one very highly. On the other hand, the grosgrain and organza ribbons are absolutely perfect in every way. I highly recommend FBTY Grosgrain and Organza Ribbon for all of your stamping, altering, scrapping and papercrafts endeavors!

Fibers by the Yard sent us a wonderful selection of different fibers. I received two years of Organza ribbon in light blue and green. Three different colors of grosgrain ribbon. I also received several colors of twill in varying widths from 3/8 inches to 1 inch. I am a huge fan of Fibers by the Yard. They have high quality products and you can buy the ribbon one yard at a time for cents. I love the fact that I can make a $10 order and get a great selection of fibers. It has been a while since I ordered but you can bet I will be making an order of ribbons and twill very soon. I had lots of fun using this high quality twill and ribbon in my projects.

I used the twill on the following project as a background to the words “My heart belongs to you.” This is a Valentine’s gift to my husband!

Fibers By The Yard sells ribbon, fibers, fabric and twill. I received a generous selection of ribbon and twill of high quality to use for this review. Ribbon is so versatile, it can be used for bows, borders, and picture frames. Ribbon can be knotted, stapled or glued. Ribbon adds color, texture and excitement to a layout. Twill is a softer type of ribbon that is a little thicker. Twill and ribbon can be stamped, put through a printer or used with rub on alphabets or images. Most scrapbookers and card makers have a large selection of ribbon and twill. I like the ability to buy ribbon and twill by the yard, and most is less than a dollar per yard.

FBTY ribbon and twill are easy to adhere to a layout. Both can be put through a xyron machine, adhered with double sided tape. A fancy look for ribbon is to create a twisted tie look and staple the ribbon V to a tag, title or picture frame. Both twill and ribbon can be stapled, adhered with brads, eyelets or simply tied to another embellishment.

My first example is a bright and sunny card. The cross grain ribbon is from FBTY as well as the flowers.

In my scrapbook layout below, I used FBTY large red cross grain ribbon, small white ric rac and small checked red ribbon. The ribbon adds texture to the page and makes a lovely picture frame. The tag has a ribbon tie and ribbon strips as decoration. The title on the ribbon "First Day of 6th Grade" is made with Making Memories Rub On Alphabet.

I give FBTY my highest recommendation for good quality and excellent variety. I have purchased fibers, ribbon and flowers in the past and have never had a complaint. I encourage you to visit their website and begin to use ribbon and twill in your creations.

Using ribbon and fiber on layouts is quite the rage these days so when I received a wide selection of ribbons and twills from Fibers By The Yard, I was thrilled. They are great!

My first layout uses a small amount of natural twill to accent the first page of my layout. I also used the Leave Memories Ribbon Stamps to stamp the word “moments” on the twill. The word is stamped with Versamark and then heat embossed with black embossing powder.

‘Cooling Down’

Fibers By The Yard – Natural twill
Leave Memories - Ribbon Stamps unmounted stamps (bookplates)
Karen Foster Designs - Patterned paper

Adhesive Tech - Glue Runner
Making Memories – “Misunderstood” foam alphabet stamps
All Night Media – “Jive” alphabet stamps

The second layout uses two different colors of twill, one a muted green and the other a cranberry color. I inked the twill to give it the same ‘distressed’ look as the patterned papers.

‘Sweet Sweet Cheeks’

Leave Memories - It's Bottlecaps!, Our Be'be (Firsts) unmounted stamp sets

My third layout uses a beautiful sheer ribbon that is greenish-yellow and sort of iridescent. It was the perfect accent for my paper and subject.

In summary, Fibers By The Yard offers a great service for the ribbon lover. They provide a wide selection of ribbons, fibers, and twills at very reasonable prices. It is a great way to acquire a wide selection without having to buy whole spools of the product. I love having a beautiful selection to choose from when I am working and it is nice to be able to do "one stop shopping" from the comfort of my home.
