Review by KathleenI received the idea book ‘Scrapbooking Moments in Time’ published by Creative Concepts. The idea book is a 96 page, glossy, spiral bound book full of over 230 layout ideas.
The flow of this book is divided out by seasons and holidays. Each section provides you with several ideas that fit a particular time of year or seasonal event. I really liked looking at different approaches to the same theme.
Notably, this particular idea book was published in 2003, right around the time I started scrapbooking. When I first looked through the book, I did note that all the pages were seemingly devoid of "product sneeze". In fact, none of the pages showcased "current" products at all. That was when I noticed the publishing date. However, I was still left with wonderfully DESIGNED pages to look at and feel inspired by. I also felt a bit nostalgic about my first endeavors in scrapbooking when "product" was not yet such a big focus on what is published.
The following layout was inspired by a lovely, simply designed layout created by Janet Schroeder titled "Sisters by Chance". The original layout uses a striped patterned paper, a focal photo, simple title and some embellishment in the form of flowers. My layout uses strips of patterned paper and cardstock on contrasting cardstock, but retains the other elements of the page.

In summary, with the multitude of idea books on the market, don’t turn away from one just because it may be older. There is a wealth of wonderful ideas out there and the idea book "Scrapbooking Moments in Time" published by Creative Concepts, is a book that would be a great reference when simply looking for design inspiration.
Review by CatherineIn the scrapbooking world, trends and ideas move quickly and products can be “out of style” even quicker. Creative Concepts 2003 release “Scrapbooking Moments in Time” was designed to inspire beginning and experienced scrapbookers to create their own “Moments in Time”. The fact that this book was originally released in 2003 makes it a little difficult to review when comparing projects to the scrapbooking world of 2006. So much has changed in scrapbooking and in products available since the release of this book.
This book is filled with mostly theme based layouts. The table of contents includes: winter, Valentine’s Day, spring, Easter, summer, beach, patriotic, autumn, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, family & friends, weddings, baby, children, birthday, sports, camping, and nature. Many ideas in the book are very relevant to the scrapbooking world this book was originally released to. I had a very hard time finding inspiration from this book, and many of the products used in this book are no longer available, so I can’t see it being particularly inspiring for the “scraplifter” type scrapbooker. However, I did find one layout in the book in which I liked the title of the layout, and I used this as the starting point for a layout I wanted to do.

In review, I am hard-pressed to recommend this book to my scrapbooking friends. I do believe that this book would be helpful for the beginner scrapbooker who uses mainly stickers and patterned paper. Again, I feel that this book was very relevant and interesting when it was released, but if one is looking for an up to date scrapbooking idea book, this one is a definite pass.
Review by EliCreative Concepts, Inc., a small publishing company that turned out it’s first idea book in July 1998, produced four more books since then. Scrapbooking Moments in Time, published in August of 2003 continued their tradition of offering quality books to the scrapbooking community.
This 96-page, full-color book features 20 subject headings with half of the book focusing on seasonal elements and the half focusing on themes. Seasonal includes those such as Winter, Valentine’s Day, Spring and Easter, to name a few. While the Subject features include: Wedding, Baby, Nature and more. Each subject includes a number of scrapbook pages, each with a listing of the artist and her supplies. A variety of scrapbook styles are featured but I especially noticed lots of paper piecing, paper tearing, graphic layouts and great use of stickers and other pre-made embellishments.
I appreciated that throughout the book, the subject headings are listed on colored bands that flank each spread. This provides easy reference when leafing through the book in search of something specific. I also love that the book is spiral bound, allowing it to stay flat when opened to a certain page.
Along with over “230 Fresh Ideas” as stated on the cover, I really enjoyed the “Designer Tips” found throughout the book. They are directions given by the artist herself that help explain a technique she used on her page. This is a very helpful feature so be sure to look for them as you peruse the book.
One of the layouts that struck my eye the very first time I looked through it was one entitled "Girls and Boys." The two sides of the page, featuring bright pink and blue, have opposing colors. If the left side features a bright pink mat with blue background, the right side features a blue with pink background. I knew I would be scraplifting this idea for my first project. I enjoyed finding photos that coincided with this opposites idea.

Conclusion: Much of what is featured in this book, including clean, graphic layouts, great use of die cuts, stickers and other pre-made elements and paper-piecing are techniques that I don’t often think of when designing a page. This book brought those techniques to the forefront of my mind and reminded me of some creative ways to use them. That is inspiring. I found the book online, retailing for $14.95. Do some shopping around and you might find an even better deal but definitely check it out be inspired to capture Moments in Time on your scrapbook pages. Recommended.
Review by ChrisScrapbooking Moments in Time is a spiral bound idea book published in 2003. It features layouts designed by an assortment of designers.
As I browsed the table of contents, I discovered that the layouts are arranged by themes such as the seasons, major holidays and many popular topics like beach, sports, camping and family. This makes locating a layout for inspiration a very easy task. While looking through the pages, I found layouts with single as well as multiple photos, making them quite versatile. Although there are no how-to instructions, there are designer tips along the way making certain techniques and effects easier to understand. The spiral binding lets this book lie flat and even fold back on itself, thus taking up minimal space on the design table. While looking through the book, I saw many names I recognized. It was fun to see how their styles have evolved over the past few years.
As I looked through the summer section, I noticed several layouts on which a sun was featured prominently. I was inspired to create my layout using a sun and photos from the only truly sunny day on my recent vacation. I used hot glue and a template printed from a digital kit to create the sun. I also applied the hot glue on top of chipboard letters for the word “sun”. Once the glue dried, I rubbed Fashion Dust over the elements and heated slightly with my heat gun to set the powder into the glue.

The straightforward style and use of many pre-made embellishments in Scrapbooking Moments in Time make this the perfect idea book for the less-experienced scrapper or for someone who wants to get a lot of pages done in a short time period.
Review by TerriScrapbooking Moments in Time is an idea book with over 230 page ideas. I enjoy looking through idea books as I am constantly inspired by other scrapbooker’s ideas. One of the first things I noticed is that it is spiral bound. I prefer spiral bound idea books because they lets me easily look at a single page while I am scrapping.
As I glanced through the book, I saw that it was organized by theme. Themes include the seasons, several holidays, children and sports. The themes are listed on each page’s border for quick identification. Many of the pages include a designer’s tip which provides details on different techniques used on the pages. The book also includes an index so you can look up a particular embellishment and find pages that use it. I found these organizational features to be very useful.
One thing that I thought was interesting about this book is that many of the pages include die cuts and multiple 4" x 6" photos. Many people I meet at crops scrap use both of these elements on their pages, but the scrapbooking magazines don’t always reflect this. Since die cuts and die cutting machines have become much more sophisticated in the last few years, and different scrapbooking products are prevalent now, some of the pages do feel a little dated. That said, there are a lot of cute ideas, and inspiration can be found in the techniques used on the pages.
I took my inspiration from a page in the book called Sisters by Chance. I was attracted to the classic design. Instead of journaling on vellum as on the original page, I used my own handwriting.

However, if you are looking for an idea book with a variety of themed pages and examples of some classic techniques like using die cuts, journaling on vellum and tearing paper, this might be just what you have been looking for.
