Create Fun Paint Textures with Stuff You’d Throw Away

I know it’s no secret, but I love paint! I love painting on my scrapbook pages. I feel like it can give my pages a little extra something special and make them unique. Did you know that you can create great textures on your scrapbook pages with everyday trash and paint? Here are just a few examples of things you can do:

Supplies needed:
Acrylic Paint
Cardstock (I like Prism Exclusives Cardstock for painting on)
Foam Brush
Plastic packaging, cardboard tp tube, cardboard, etc.

Using the Cardboard toilet paper tube, you can create cool circular elements on your page. Simply pour your paint out onto a scrap sheet of paper. Then, dip the cardboard tube into the paint and swirl it around some. Stamp the image onto your cardstock or paper. Overlap circles, line them up, do whatever you’d like. Experiment a bit.

Here is a page that I did using this technique.

Live Out Loud:

Products used:
Cardstock (Prism Papers)
Patterned Papers (Making Memories; Christina Cole; Rusty Pickle)
Melting Pot (Ranger)
UTEE (Ranger - Clear)
Tools (Ranger - Kool Toolz)
Craft Sheet (Ranger)
Paint (Making Memories)
Stamps (Technique Tuesdays)
Chipboard Alphabet (Zsiage)
Beadazzles (Ranger)
Adhesive (Adtech Permanent Bond Glue Runner; Glue Dots)

Another “throw away” item that I love to use to paint with is plastic bubble wrap. I love the look that this creates on the page as well. For this look, simply squeeze out a small amount of paint onto a scrap paper. Using a foam brush, swipe the paint directly onto the bubble wrap. Quickly, before the glue dries, turn the bubble wrap over and impress it onto the paper. You’ll get a cool, beehive effect on your page.

Shoes

Products used:
Cardstock (Prism Exclusives - China)
Patterned Papers (BasicGrey; Foofala)
Die Cuts (Sassafras Lass)
UTEE (Ranger - Clear)
Paint (Making Memories)
Stamps (Wendy Speciale Designs; Technique Tuesdays)
Ribbon (Tie One On Ribbon Club)
Ghost Alphabet (Heidi Swapp)
Adhesive (Adtech Permanent Bond Glue Runner; Glue Dots)

Another favorite of mine is to use ripped up cardboard to create lines on my page. These lines can be used for journaling, or as decoration. Again, all you need to do is apply paint with a foam brush to the inner portion of the cardboard (corrugated part) with a foam brush. Then, turn the piece of cardboard over and stamp it onto your paper.

Once the paint dries, you can use the stamped image as the background for your new page.

Play

Products used:
Cardstock (Prism Exclusives)
Patterned Papers (American Crafts)
Paint (Making Memories)
Journaling Card (Jenni Bowlin)
Alphabet Stickers (Mustard Moon)
Buttons (assorted)
Stamps (7Gypsies; Jenni Bowlin)
Adhesive (Adtech Permanent Bond Glue Runner; Glue Dots)

I always find it’s fun to experiment with textures, and things to stamp with. Before you throw things away, decide whether they’d be good to use for painting or stamping techniques!
