Masking

Have you ever wanted to use a mask but didn’t have one, or didn’t have the right one? Well, here is an easy way to create your own masks with supplies you have on hand.

I wanted to create a mask border so I chose a 12" Sizzlits border die. You will want to use a heavy weight cardstock to create the mask because pattern paper is too flimsy for this process. Once you have created the die cut, separate the images, being sure to punch out all the little pieces.

Placing the cut image onto your layout, gently ink around the images, using colors of your choice. While I used chalk, I also could have used paint or brush markers. Experiment to find what works best for you. As you work, you can gently pick up the edge of your mask to be sure the coverage is adequate. If you feel more color is required, just realign the mask and continue.

As you can see, the finished piece is soft and subtle. I chose to add color with doodles and jeweled brads.
