Rubber stamping offers countless possibilities for scrapbooking and card making. One technique, creating a resist, will give your layouts and cards a unique and sophisticated look with a few easy steps.

To begin, gather the following supplies:
Rubber stamp(s)
Versamark watermarking ink
Clear embossing powder
Glossy paper
Stamping ink
Heat gun
Cotton balls

The first step is to load your rubber stamp with the Versamark watermarking ink. I recommend Versamark because the ink stays wet longer. Once you have loaded the rubber stamp, stamp your image onto the glossy paper. It is important to note that your paper must have a glossy she en for this technique to work. Manila folders work well with this technique as well.

After stamping your image, sprinkle clear embossing powder over your image and heat set the embossing powder.

After your embossed image has cooled, take a cotton ball and load it with stamping ink. In a circular motion, rub t he stamping ink over the embossed image. You will see the image come through without color but surrounded by the color. This method works best if your stamp pad is fairly wet, allowing you to pick up more ink. However, it will work with all ink pads though you may need to apply ink more often.

Creating a resist is a simple technique and one that you can change easily. Try the resist technique with chalk or metallic rub-ons and see how each medium creates a unique look that you can use on all your scrapbook and card making projects.
