Creating a Shadowbox Layout
by Melanie Douthit

Do you like the look of a shadow box and wondered how to incorporate the look for your scrapbook pages? Try these simple steps.

What you will need:

- Foam Core Board (from Hobby Store or Art Department)
- Craft Knife
- Glue Stick
- Double Sided tape
- Cardstock, patterned paper and your favorite embellishments

Foam core board comes in various colors, with white and black being the most common. It comes in large and small sheets.

To create a strong background, use cardstock as the base. I attached patterned paper on top of the cardstock for my floral background. Measure and mark your foam core to fit the sides, making the width of each piece approximately ½". Measure pieces for the inside of your shadow box, according to what design you want your cubicles. Cut your strips with a craft knife.

Check the sizes of your pieces by placing them on your layout. Adjust if needed. Next, you will cover your foam core board with patterned paper, adhering with glue stick on all sides. Use double-sided tape to secure the paper in the back. Let pieces dry if using liquid glue.

Once covered with paper, adhere your foam core strips to your layout using double sided tape or your favorite glue or adhesive.

If you are using ribbon, you may want to place your ribbon on your strips before mounting. Next, add photos, journaling and embellishments as you desire.
