Pastel or Chalk Background for Stamped Images
by Melanie Douthit

To create a soft colorful background for stamped images, try using artists pastels or your scrapbook chalk. This is a quick and easy way to create a dramatic image. Have fun with it and get creative. Start with a light colored cardstock. I used a light tan. You will need something to scrap off the powder, such as a craft knife. First, start with a light color and scrape the color onto the cardstock. Blend in with a sponge tip or your finger. Shake off the excess powder. Repeat these steps using different colors. Try to use complimentary colors, but don’t blend too much. Remember that much of your background will be covered up with the stamp, so don’t try to create a “masterpiece”, just put your color down. I blended in a diagonal direction, but feel free to experiment with different directions and color combinations.

Next, coat your stamp with Versamark and stamp onto your new background. Cover the stamped image with a dark embossing powder. Shake off excess, then heat set with a heat gun. Trim your image and use on your layout or card. Be sure to share your creations in the gallery.
