Creating a rust faux finish on card stock

I love faux finishes, and rust is one of my very favorites. I developed this rust finish a couple of years ago, and when I started scrapbooking I used it for my background card stock.

Supplies needed:
Paint- Barn Red, Burnt Umber, Metalic Bronze, Black
Dark Red card stock
Sponge
Paper towel
Old toothbrush
Plastic covering or trash bag for your work surface, it can get messy

Place your card stock on the trash bag. Starting with the burnt umber paint, dip the sponge into it and dab it a little to spread it around the sponge, you don't want one big blob of paint. Begin sponging the paper ramdomly, leaving the red card stock showing through.

Without cleaning the sponge, and while the sponge and paper are still wet with paint, dip it in to the barn red paint and blot to spread it on the sponge, sponge it on the card stock till it looks good to you.

Next use the matallic bronze, while the sponge and paper are still wet, follow the same instructions, sponge it over the cardstock till it looks good to you. You will want some of each color and the dark red card stock showing through.

Dip the toothbrush in the black paint and and use your thumb to flick it onto the card stock in just a few spots, not heavily. You just want small dots of black paint. If there are any large areas of black, sponge over them.

Allow to dry at least an hour before using for your layout.
