How to Emboss Chipboard Page Elements
by Lynn Anne Cutler

Supplies:

* Chipboard Tag, Bookplate or Monogram by Sarah Heidt Photocraft
* The Wizard Embossing and Die Cutting System, including:
2 white master boards, 1 tan embossing pad, and your choice of Spellbinders embossing dies (project shown uses Illumination Charm 3)
* Water

1)Using a clean sponge, paper towel, or rag, *slightly* dampen the surface of the chipboard. Embossing the element while it’s SLIGHTLY damp will help make the embossed image ‘pop’!

2)Create your Wizard ‘sandwich’ as follows:

Place the Spellbinders die on top of the white master embossing mat, ridge side up. Lay the chipboard element on top of the die, with the side you want embossed against the die.

Put the tan embossing mat over the element.

Top with the white master cutting mat.

3)Guide your ‘sandwich’ carefully through the Wizard, making sure to ‘catch’ the sandwich as it comes through the other side.

That’s it! ‘Finish’ your embossed chipboard element however you like. The embossed texture lends itself particularly well to painting (try using one color as a base coat, then ‘dry brushing’ a contrasting or complementary color over the raised parts of the image) or inking (rub a dry tissue gently over the ink while it’s still wet, and some ink from the raised parts of the image will come off and highlight the embossing).

For the project shown, I used a tag from Sarah Heidt Photocraft’s Chipboard Monograms collection. Sarah Heidt’s chipboard works particularly well for Wizard embossing because its light weight helps it emboss easily. Other manufacturers’ chipboard may work as well, but results will vary depending on the thickness and construction of the chipboard.

Have fun!
