Create Custom Colored Glaze to Alter Embellishments
by Chris Chapman

Quite often I have the perfect embellishment for a project, but the color is just not right. Coating it with an easy-to-make custom colored glaze proved to be just the solution.

Supplies needed:
Mod Podge
Acrylic Paint
Foam brush
Embellishment to alter (one that can be painted)
Paint mixing tray

Pour a portion of Mod Podge about the size of a quarter into your mixing tray. Add a small squeeze of acrylic paint that will match your project. This picture will give you an idea of the ratio of paint to Mod Podge. If you are covering a larger item, you will want to mix more glaze.

Mix them thoroughly.

Paint a thin coat on the embellishment. Let it dry. If the color is not intense enough, you can apply additional coats, letting them dry in between. Because you have created a glaze, you will not obliterate the design, just slightly alter its color.

Here you can see the difference. The white letters were too stark and bright for my project, but the glazed letters are just perfect.

This technique can be used over paper on an altered project to give it a slightly tinted coating. Try using metallics, Perfect Pearls, Pearl Ex and other coloring mediums. I think you’ll love the effect and the ability to customize the color of your embellishments.
