Want to make a 3D Butterfly that *POPS* off the page?

This is an easy to follow craft activity that even kids can do! Don't be scared by all the pictures, it really is very easy!

To show you the differences between butterfly colors, I used different inks and different glues. If you also want to add Butterfly Antennae, read through the instructions to the very end before you get started.

Supplies needed:
Stamped images of butterflies. This works best with 3 butterflies of the same image with the same ink on the same paper.
Glue (I used Elmer's 3D Shimmering Shapes which includes brushes and has different scents.)
Brushes
Chalks
Chalk applicators (I used cosmetic applicators)
Pop dots
Scissors
Optional items: Wire

1. Gather your supplies and place them on a covered surface.

2. Place your butterfly images on a flat surface and start applying chalks. It will look most realistic if you start with the light colors first, followed by dark colors. I like to place a spot of light color on each wing, and then color the rest of the wing a dark color.

3. Place your chalked butterflies on a covered surface and take some glitter glue on your brush and cover the butterfly. This will look best if you can cover the butterfly with a thin layer, and not too many pools of glue left on the wings. If you aren't using Elmer's 3D Shimmering Shapes glue and want your butterfly to sparkle, this is the time to add glitter or beads.

4. Glue with caution and short heating times, or wait for the glue to dry.

5. Cut out each butterfly.

6. Place a Pop Dot in the middle of the first butterfly.

7. Place the second butterfly directly on the Pop Dot, stacking the two butterflies.

8. Repeat, placing a Pop Dot in the middle of the second butterfly

9. Place the third butterfly directly on the Pop Dot stacking the three butterflies.

10. Place your finger in the center of the top butterfly, and press down to make sure all the pop dots are securely fastening the butterflies.

11. Gently fluff the wings, taking each wing and slightly bending inwards. You now have a 3D butterfly!

Optional: Add Antennae to your Butterfly

Want to add Butterfly Antennae? It's very easy to do and just takes a minute.

A. Gather your supplies:
Cut out butterflies
Beading wire
Wire cutters
Pop dots

B. Cut a length of wire, approximately 2 inches or less. Flip over the butterflies.

C. Bend the wire with your fingers into a "U" shape. Then cross the ends.

D. Place the wire on the back of the butterfly, so the antennae are sticking out the middle. Cover with a Pop Dot.

E. Flip the second butterfly over and place face down on top of the Pop Dot. Repeat with the third butterfly.

F. Flip the stack of butterflies over. Follow the instructions #10-11 above to fluff the wings. You are done! You now have a Butterfly with antennae and moveable wings!
