Color blocking is a wonderful technique when you have a lot of photos that you want to get onto a layout. You can use purchased templates or just create your own pattern.

This article will address your own design with no template. Color blocking with no template can actually be a faster process. You aren't limited to the same size blocks each time either.

Crop your photos and mat them.

Arrange them in a pleasing pattern on your background paper. You may find that you have too much extra room on your page and need to add a couple more photos.

Or you may not have enough space. This problem may be corrected by simply cropping down a photo or two and their mats. If not, you may need to eliminate a picture or two.

Now you set about filling in your blank spots. Simply put your paper down and make marks where your spaces need to be filled (on the underside of your mat paper) and cut to fit. Another option is to add in beads, border stickers, fibers,Magic Mesh, slide mounts, etc. to take up the same space.

Add your blocks to fill in the spaces.

You can leave the blocks empty or put a title, journaling, stickers, etc. on them.
