Altered 3 1/2" Diskette Album

I discovered this easily alterable office supply one night when my toddler decided to rummage through some junk drawers I had in my scrampin’ room/office. Upon picking them up, I was harassing myself about why I don’t throw such useless things away. I mean really, who uses these diskettes any more with all the CD’s and DVD’s about. Then it struck me. I’m dressing these up with all of my pretty scrapbook things and making gift scrapbooks out of them. They would be the perfect size for stocking stuffers, pocket brag books, etc. Of course, I still have not been able to part with them. I’ve managed to acquire quite the collection for myself. Maybe we could even figure a way to utilize them as an embellishment/supply organizational tool of some sort, i.e., storing small die cuts for example. They come in all sorts of colors and are pretty affordable.

Supplies Needed
3.5” Plastic Diskette Holder
Paper Trimmer
Glue Dots/Adhesive of Choice
Ribbon/Fibers
3 Sheets of 12 x 12 Cardstock
3.5” x 8” Sheet of Scrapbook Paper
Coordinating Scrapbook Paper to Decorate the Pages of the Mini Scrapbook
Coordinating Scrapbook Embellishments, i.e., Rubber Stamps, Stickers, Brads, etc.
Bone Folder (optional, but not needed)
Sanding block (optional, but not needed)
Corner rounder (optional, but not needed)

Cut cardstock into 3.5” x 12” strips. At the end, you will have nine sheets this size with three left-over scrap pieces.

Accordion fold cardstock by folding each strip in half, preferably using a bone folder, then fold each side in to meet the already creased middle fold. Do this for each cardstock strip.

Attach each strip at its end to the beginning of the next strip using your adhesive of choice.

At the end you will have one long accordion fold.

At this point, I like to fold it all together and sand the edges with a sanding block to expose that beautiful white core which naturally makes a great border.

Attach scrapbook paper, embellishments, pictures, etc., to the front of the accordion fold only as the back won’t be seen. Do not bother to decorate the very first page or the very last page of the accordion fold as this will later be affixed to the inside of the diskette holder. If you need embellishment ideas, see finished results at the end.
Attach Ribbon at the inside of the diskette holder horizontally. This will be your closure.

For decorative purposes, attach ribbon at the “spine” of the diskette holder, and then tie in a pretty bow on the outside of the spine.

Attach the first page of the accordion fold (the one not decorated) to the inside left of the diskette holder. Attach the last page (the other one not decorated) to the inside right of the diskette holder.

Cover the front and back of the diskette holder with one 3.5” x 8” strip of scrapbook paper. Use a photo rounder to round the corners (optional).
Decorate front with scrapbook embellishments.
