Review by Randi
I love the glitter sets from Art Institute Glitter Inc. The smallish box is misleading because it contains big things! Not only do you receive six marvelous glitters (we aren't talking the kind you played with as a kid!) but an industrial strength glue, spoon, noodgers, pin, metal tip, and cloth. They thought of everything and included it!
I found the metal tip to be essential. It allows one to use the smallest little line of glue. I attempted some things without this tip, but failed miserably. I made the mistake of leaving my little tip in a cup of water to soak the glue out of it and lost it when it was dumped down the drain, so be careful to put it away after each use! Fortuantely I was able to find a store that sold extra tips and I purchased two of them, just in case!
Art Glitter is wonderful for card making. What a lot of sparkle and pizzaz comes with such a small amount! On this card I stamped pine trees then used just a small amount of glitter to sparkle snow on the ends of the branches. Unfortunately the sparkle doesnt' show well in this (or any) of the photos of our projects. You really need to see this stuff in person to get the full effect.

You can embellish your embellishments to make them even more special. I put the Sarah Heidt title upside down and through my Xryon machine to make the front sticky. I then highlighted it with Pink Cadillac Pearlescent Art Glitter for a striking title.

Review by SarahThe Art Institute Art Glitter: Prepare to Sparkle!
To put it simply, The Art Institute Art Glitter (also known as Barbara Trombley’s Original Art Glittering System) is amazing. I always thought glitter was glitter was glitter. Okay, maybe there were a few different grades of glitter consisting of coarse ground and fine ground with one or two sizes in between, but that was the extent of it. It sparkles and you glue it on and that’s that.
Was I ever wrong about glitter!
With a baffling 11 glitter types and at least 375 glitter colors, The Art Institute with their Art Glitter system offers a veritable plethora of glitter choices. Did I also mention they offer everything you need to glitter successfully, including multiple types of glue, different size tips for the glue bottles, adhesive paper, double-sided tape, stamps, educational materials, miscellaneous accessories you’d never think of until you started glittering - and more?
For this review I was sent a Basic Kit. This tidy little package retails at just over $20 and measures in a mystifying 5” by 4” by 1” deep. At a glance, the packaging is very professional but really doesn’t tell you anything about the product. Through the window, six glitter color types and a tube of Designer Dries Clear glue are visible.
There are plenty more surprises in store once you get this little package open. Not only does it include the six ¼-ounce jars of glitter and the 2-ounce bottle of glue; you will also find a special plastic tip (that attaches to the glue bottle), a tiny tip attachment (which fastens to the plastic tip), a few “Noodgers” (used for nudging glue mistakes into place), a nice long straight pin (for clearing the glue tip), a tiny scooping spoon (yes, you will want it!), and even a fabric cloth (for wiping the glue tip, which is needed frequently). Also included is an instruction sheet which offers a brief introduction to the purpose of each item as well as basic glittering techniques.
Background Paper: Scissor Sisters
I was very impressed with all the accessories included in this set as well as the coherent instructions. I would never consider this set at $21 for just the items visible through the window, so I wish that the packaging listed the contents of a deceptively small box. Art Glitter is fabulous glitter, and their Designer Dries Clear Adhesive is utmost quality. As you create glittered projects you will also appreciate the inclusion of each and every one of the accessories. Art Glitter’s Basic Kit is definitely a smart buy – but maybe you would like to hear more about these “fabulous” glitters.
Wondering just what is that difference between glitters, which I mentioned earlier? I had the opportunity of working with three Art Glitter types: Transparent, Hologram, and Opaque. First off, I ran a bit of glue and compared each of the three glitter types side-by-side. (I’m having trouble with this difference-in-glitter concept here, you know…)
To my astonishment, Transparent glitters actually, sure-enough, no-doubt-about-it dry with a degree of transparency. (What a concept; I wondered why that bottle said “transparent” on it!) If you apply Transparent glitters over a stamp, when it dries you will be able to see the original stamp lines muted through the glitter colors! You can also see Transparent glitters through to the base substance beneath. Transparent glitter over white will have a very pastel effect, while Transparent glitter over a coordinating color will just intensify.
Opaque glitter is closer to the stuff we are accustomed to using. Its vibrant color covers up EVERYTHING. The #19 Grape color I used has variegated shades of purple in the same bottle! This gives the glitter so much more depth than any glitter I’ve ever used. The Ultrafine grain also gives this glitter a delightful, finer-than-sand, stardust consistency that just looks fabulous in use.
Hologram glitter really had me stumped at first. Once I used it though, I noticed that it punches a lot more sparkle than the other glitters. On closer inspection you will notice that it has ultrafine pieces of glitter as well as more coarsely chopped, mirror-like glitters.
Each of these three glitter types offers their own unique, individual look to glittering projects. I couldn’t choose a favorite just out of these three because no one of them is singularly better than the others – just slightly different so you are sure to find the PERFECT glitter for your project! I’m so intrigued to learn from Art Glitter’s website that they offer 11 different glitter types. (My mind is blown… wow!)

My first project uses all three glitter types in all but one of the seven colors I received. The background of this card was created by applying strips of The Art Institute’s Sticky Tape in a crisscross pattern. First, vertical strips were attached and Hologram glitter was sprinkled over the top. Then, horizontal strips were attached and the adhesive exposed as I put on each different Transparent color. It is interesting that you can see the pink Hologram glitter color through the Transparent colors.
On the flower, I "scratched" on liquid glue using the tiny tip on the Designer Dries Clear Adhesive. Yellow Transparent glitter over a yellow flower intensifies the color all around. For the center, I attached the flower using a brad and then flooded with glue and purple Opaque glitter. Notice how effectively the Opaque glitter covers all other colors.

I went glitter crazy on my next page! I think the highlight of this page is the Unicorn and Princess stamp embellishment. It was stamped, watercolor painted, and then glittered. The rainbow technique was applied to the unicorn's mane and tail, and thanks to the fact that these are Translucent glitters, the original detailed lines of the stamp show through. (To do the rainbow technique, apply glue to the entire section, and then spoon on strips of glitter where you want it. Tap it off carefully and move on to the next color in rainbow sequence). Details were added to the garments of the princess as well by following the lines of the stamp.
This page also features a glittering Dottie Ann resist, glitter photo mats created by tracing with Designer Dries Clear Adhesive around the pictures, and Fleur de Lis punches which were smeared with Designer Dries Clear Adhesive and glittered with colors corresponding to the paper.

Finally, I really wanted to give Designer Dries Clear Adhesive a run for its money. Touted as "industrial strength" throughout The Art Institute’s videos and literature, I wanted to see what it can really do.
My next project is an altered glass medicine bottle! I used my finger to smear Designer Dries Clear Adhesive in sections all over the bottle surface. I also wanted to see exactly how potent Opaque glitter can be, so I chose the Opaque Grape for covering the ugly brown glass.
Designer Dries Clear Adhesive is tough stuff! I was pleased with how well it held glitter all over that glass. I also love how well the glitter performed this test. There is no ugly brown glass to be seen at all – just gorgeous, sparkling glitter!
Along with fibers, wire and a moon charm, I finished this project by writing "Moon Dust" on one side of the metal tag and "For Sweet Dreams" on the reverse. I used the tiny tip on Designer Dries Clear Adhesive as my “pen” and applied Translucent blue Art Glitter. This adhesive even holds glitter on metal like a rock.

The one downfall to this product is that it can be very messy! Make use of the spoon provided and make sure to follow those tips in the information sheet – dumping glitter directly from the little canister and back is chaos! Due to the “dumping” method and my toddler figuring out how to unscrew one of the canister lids, not to mention sticky baby fingers randomly managing to find their way into my work-in-progress, now that I am finished with my Art Glitter projects I am totally covered in glitter from head to toe! My toddler looks like a victim of a new disease called The Glitter Plague, and even my scrapping table, floor and computer keyboard have broken out with symptoms. This is a messy product. I’d say avoid using it right before a fancy event where you don’t want to show up wearing blue sparkling acne, or where you wouldn’t want to have your kid looking like he fell in a vat at a glitter factory. Other than that friendly warning, I give The Art Institute Art Glitter my highest “impressed!” rating.
In Summary: The Art Institute Art Glitter offers incredible quality, incredible options, incredible mess, and incredible
gorgeous sparkle! These products are the utmost in excellence and I am completely impressed.
Review by Rachel
I was excited to see all the beautiful glitter from the Art Institute. I received the Wildflower Art Glittering System. It consists of six bottles of microfine transparent glitter. The glitter comes in ¼ oz. jars. The colors included in this basic kit are: Blue Bell, Sea Foam, Iris, Sunshine, Hot Lips, and Romosa. The basic kit also includes a 2 oz. bottle of Designer Dries Clear Adhesive. It also includes an ultrafine metal tip, three noodgers, plastic spoon, cloth and pin. They also include instructions in the box. The Wildflowers kit cost about $25.00 on the Art Glitter site. I also received a ½ oz jar of microfine Opaque glitter in the color of Gypsy Mauve. The jar of opaque glitter costs about $5.50 on the Art Glitter site.
At first, I was intimidated by the glitter. I started with watching the video and that helped me gain the confidence I needed to get started. I started by practicing with the glue bottle to get a continuous line. That went pretty well and I didn’t want to waste anymore glue so I decided to just jump right on in!
The first project that I used the glitter on was a scrapbook page about how my husband and I came up with our daughter’s name. I used the glitter to enhance the butterfly stamps I used to embellish this page. I also used the glitter to write my daughter’s name and the meaning of her name. I used the ultrafine metal tip to write that small so I could then frame them in the frames. I think the glitter adds such elegance and just makes the butterflies pop right off the page.

I gained so much confidence from my first layout that I knew I just had to try the rainbow technique on my next project. I also wanted to try making the lace frame using the sticky paper that the Art Institute also sent us. I went crazy with glitter on this layout. I used the rainbow technique on the individual flowers. That technique is where you use many different colors of glitter where each color bleeds into the next. It is a very pretty technique. I also tried to make the lace frame using the directions that the company included. I am a visual learner and so I was never able to figure those directions out so I made up my own thing. I used the Opaque microfine glitter that I received and made this elegant frame for my photo. I also used the glitter to make a border around my title box and used it to enhance a stamped image on the second page. I had so much fun using the glitter on this page that I just couldn’t stop myself. Oh, and Yes, I had glitter everywhere!

I really enjoyed working with Wildflowers kit and had a lot of fun with the glitter. I loved the fact that I didn’t have to worry if the colors coordinated or not since they obviously did. The kit really took a lot of guesswork out of it for me. I really do like the microfine glitter because it tends to stick so much better than regular glitter. The glitter is the perfect thing to add a bit of shine and elegance to your layouts or cards.
The Designer Dries Clear glue is incredible. I absolutely love it. It is very easy to use and quite versatile. It also dries quite fast when using it in small amounts. Most of my pieces dried with 15 minutes. I usually did some glitter and worked elsewhere on my page and came back to it later. I never had to wait on the glue to dry since it dried so fast. I was very impressed!
I also enjoyed using the ultrafine metal tip. It became a tool that I returned to time and time again. It is very easy to do fine detailed stamped images with the help of this tool.
Be sure to soak this part after you have used it because it does tend to get clogged quite easily. Thank goodness the company understands that and includes a pin in the system to work out the clogs.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this system to all scrapbookers from beginners to experts. The beginners will enjoy how fun and easy the system is to use. The advanced scrapbookers will enjoy the extra pizzazz the system adds to their projects. I can see myself reaching for this glittering system time and time again. I really enjoyed working with this product.
Review by Cathy
Art Glitter products are a high quality glittering system that makes using glitter a snap. I really had fun with these products and was able to make quite a few projects. The Reggae Kit contains 6 jars of ultra fine glitter and a bottle of Designer Dries Clear Adhesive. The adhesive comes with an extra fine special tip and there was a plastic spoon and a piece of decorated fabric in cluded in the kit. Reggae colors are mostly pastels, with the exception of Hot Kiss (hot pink) and Melone (a coppery/gold red). I also received a jar of Art Glitter-Opaque Glitter- Royale( deep blue). I was impressed with how easy it was to use the Designer Dries Adhesive.
The Designer Dries Adhesive comes in an easy to use bottle. The cap has an application tip and there is an extra one in the kit. The cap and the extra tip are easy to apply. The glue flows easily. Drying time varies with the project and once dried the glue has a very strong hold. I found I preferred the tip that came on the Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear Adhesive bottle the best. This glue really does dry clear.
The Art Glitter-Fabric Color Kit (Reggae) comes with six jars of gorgeous ultra fine glitter. Reggae Ultra fine Glitter is a finer grain glitter than the heavier opaque glitter. This results in a more translucent glitter effect. I recommend that when you obtain your glitter kit, that you watch the video by Babara Trombley-"The Art of Glittering". This video will teach you helpful tips and techniques for all of the Art Glitter products.
My first examples are decorated pre-made greeting cards. I recommend that you experiment with easy projects to get the hang of working with the glitters. In the video, Barbara Trombley keeps her glitters stored in plastic containers and scoops the glitter out with a spoon. I recommend this method.

I think Art Glitter Kits have many applications for scrapbooking. I really love the look of glittered paper. It is really easy to make and looks extremely rich and festive. The patterned paper in the layout "Grandpa Clark" was a monochromatic floral design. I traced the flower pattern with the Designer Dries Clear Adhesive and then applied the Art Glitter Lemone' Ultra fine Transparent Glitter. Next, to add a little splash of color , I added a drop of Designer Dries Clear Adhesive to the middle of the flower and applied the Ultra Fine Melone Glitter. The first photo shows the Storyteller's Paper before the glitter application. The flowered brads and large flower are decorated to match the paper with the same Ultra Fine Glitter. This is a terrific technique for scrapbookers.

I have an endless amount of projects that are on my "To Do List" using the Art Glitter Ultra fine and Opaque Glitters. I will definitely be purchasing a holiday color kit to decorate my homemade cards and my Holiday layouts. I know I am going to make gorgeous creations with my Reggae Kit. Please check the gallery for all of my future projects. I give the Art Glitter Fabric Color Kit with the Designer Dries Clear Adhesive my highest recommendation. I also give the same recommendation to the Opaque Glitter.

I received the Rainbow Ultra fine Opaque glitter kit from Art Institute. The glitter kit contains 6 ¼-ounce jars of glitter (True Red, Pumpkin, Old Gold, Aqua, Royale, and Grape), one 2-ounce bottle of Designer Dries Clear Adhesive and tip, two noodgers (for removing stray adhesive), one stainless steel pin, a small plastic spoon , a cloth (for cleaning the glue tip), and one ultra fine metal tip (for pencil fine writing and details).
I also received one ½-ounce bottle of Ultra fine transparent glitter (Butterfly).
The kit is really pretty neat. Not only does it offer a nice range of colors, but it also includes the adhesive and other tools needed for successful glittering. I was a little perplexed by the whole concept of the noodger until I viewed the Art of Glittering video and was showed by Barbara Trombley how to use it. It is used for removing lines of glue or pushing glue back into place that may have been smeared. A very neat addition to the kit is the ultra fine metal tip. All you do is attach it to the existing glue bottle tip and glue away! It is great for getting more detail.
The colors in the Rainbow Ultra fine Opaque glitter kit are very vibrant. I love the deep, intense colors. I also love that you can use the glitters with any type of adhesive. For the following card, I used the ultra fine metal tip and I also used double-sided adhesive. To create the flower, I took the wire flower and laid it on a sheet of double-sided adhesive and cut the adhesive to the shape of the flower. I then applied the glitter. Once the glitter was applied, I coated the petals with the Designer Dries Clear Adhesive to give it a bit of dimension.

I used the glitters on the next card to accent the stamp o n the card. I also wrote "Allelujia" with the Designer Dries Clear
Adhesive and then covered it with the Old Gold glitter.

The next card gives an example of the transparent glitter. While an opaque glitter covers because of the heavy pigment, a
transparent glitter is sheer and allows colored inks or patterned papers to come through. I stamped the hearts on this card
with pink ink and then quickly applied the transparent glitter. Then, I used a heat gun to set the ink. I also added some
freehand lines with the Designer Dries Clear Adhesive and used the same transparent glitter.

“Sugar and Spice Glitter Card”

Art Institute - Butterfly Ultra fine Transparent Glitter, Dries Clear Adhesive
ColorBox – f luid chalk ink
Dream Impressions – glossy cardstock

Other – heart stamp, ribbon
Since I had not really used glitter since I was in grade school, now that I am an adult, I found myself having a grand ole’
time with this kit. I do find it to be a bit messy and often found my children with glimmering cheeks due to their close
proximity to my scrapping table throughout the day. But that aside, I can see how the glitters can enhance the accents scrapbookers
and card makers use. I intend to use the glitters on more of my scrapbook pages but I really found myself making cards since
it adds so much "pop" to the card.
I think all levels of scrapbookers will enjoy working with the glitters from Art Institute. The glitters' retail price is very reasonable considering it will last a long time. I still have almost full jars of glitter even after a lot of playing and making some big messes! The Basic kit I reviewed retails for $20.90 and comes in several different color combinations, but you can also buy any one of the 375+ colors starting at $3.50 per ½-ounce jar.
